Sun Sailor LETTER: Steffen for SLP City Council

Updated: Oct 26

To the Editor:

"Engaging." That’s how I would describe Sarah Steffen. She puts herself forward and gets involved in causes that she cares about.

Sarah Steffen has been a lifelong Democrat. During that time, she has been involved in helping responsible, caring candidates get elected to work for our values. So it was natural for Sarah to reach out to the local DFL Senate District 46 to get connected as soon as she moved into St. Louis Park. That’s where I met Sarah. Our organization of volunteers is multigenerational, and it’s heartwarming that she mingles with us with genuine interest as we work on projects together.

Health and well-being are fundamental issues to Sarah, who has a master’s degree in public health and works at a community healthcare clinic. Her education and experience give her an essential perspective on what could enhance people’s lives in St. Louis Park - both physically and emotionally. She is concerned about us as whole people. That means she will advocate for improving biking and walking, accessible healthcare for all, affordable housing and livable wages and enhancing social connectability.

On top of the practical concern of cost is the effect financial stress has on our emotional well-being, which in turn affects our physical health. To Sarah, the total picture matters. Healthcare for all matters.

I am so pleased that Sarah Steffen can be part of our SLP City Council. If you check out her website at sarahmsteffen.com, you will see how thoughtful and resourceful she is. I am sad I don’t live in Ward I because I can’t vote for Sarah. But you can! And I hope you will!
