Sun Sailor LETTER: Steffen for St. Louis Park City Council

by Rachel Bearinger, St. Louis Park, published 10/9/25

To the Editor:

As a food enthusiast, active musician, and St. Louis Park resident of five years, I am writing in support of opening a farmers market in our community in 2026. A farmers market would provide easier access to fresh, healthy produce to our residents. It would give musicians and small business owners opportunities to showcase and sell their work. For local families, it would offer children and their adults fun and new experiences on a recurring basis.

Playing music is one of my greatest passions. I strongly believe that live music positively contributes to a community’s culture, bringing joy and connection to all who experience it. I’ve had the pleasure of performing at many farmers markets over the years in Minnesota and Iowa. Having the opportunity to perform at a farmers market right in my own city and foster deeper connections with my fellow community members would be a dream come true!

Earlier this month I attended the annual St. Louis Park Art Fair at the ROC for the first time. The art fair included dozens of craft vendors, live music, and several food trucks and tents. My family and I spent over an hour at the fair discovering new artisans, purchasing gifts, eating great food and enjoying the music. This was just a taste of what a recurring farmers market could provide for our community in St. Louis Park.

Sarah Steffen, who is running for City Council in Ward 1, is advocating for the establishment of a St. Louis Park Farmers Market in 2026. I wholeheartedly agree! Let’s come together for the creation of a new community-building event in our city.
