To the Editor:
I am writing today in support of Sarah Steffen’s campaign for city council in Ward 1. As a long time SLP resident, I know that there are many valid ways to serve the community of St. Louis Park. Sarah exemplifies a variety of them.
I know Sarah through our mutual work on the Senate District 46 DFL, which is the volunteer DFL group for St Louis Park, Hopkins and NW Edina. Sarah is a pleasure to work with, and is always collaborative, kind and thoughtful when working with others. She co-hosted the SD46 DFL Annual Summer Get Together each of the past three years and did an excellent job.
Her leadership helps the event grow year over year. She has recruited many wonderful speakers over the years, such as MN Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan, MN Secretary of State Steve Simon, US Rep. Kelly Morrison, and more, to share updates with us. This year, Sarah hired a professional musician and a photographer for the event, which enhanced the celebration for all.
In addition to running the show behind the scenes, this August Sarah gave a speech as a DFL-supported candidate for City Council, Ward 1. Her public speaking skills shone as she addressed affordability in SLP, and her hopes for the future where everyone can live, work and play in the Park.
Sarah is also on the University of Minnesota's Students and Recent Alumni Council. In this role, she helps shape the UMN Alumni Association’s strategy for engaging students and recent alumni. Sarah also advocates for the U by meeting with legislators and sharing why the U is important to her. When a cause is important to Sarah, she dedicates herself to it fully.
I would be honored to have Sarah represent me and Ward 1 on the SLP City Council. I know that she would do so with the professionalism and collaborative spirit that she brings to all her work. Let us come together on Nov. 4 to elect Sarah Steffen to represent us at City Hall.
