My name is Sarah Steffen, and I’m running to be your next St. Louis Park City Council member. The election will be held on November 4, 2025.
I’m a Minnesotan from just down the street in Edina. Growing up, I noticed wealth disparities in my community and at my school, but didn’t understand them. Since then, I have delved into sociology, public health, and community health promotion. I studied at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, and lived in Uptown throughout the COVID 19 pandemic. What I’ve learned is that policy and structural decisions contribute immensely to the disparities that we see in not only wealth, but also in health, life expectancy, and so much more.
In Saint Louis Park, we are radically inclusive. We seek to welcome everyone who moves here and help them find their footing in our community. Saint Louis Park deserves leaders who will make sure that everyone has a chance to follow their dreams in SLP by proposing and fighting for policies that are good for people.
When Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022 and women lost critical protections of our reproductive rights, I knew that it was time for a new generation of leaders to step up. I started taking the steps to get ready for my eventual run for office - directing communications for State House candidate Lauren Bresnahan, Ph.D., and joining the communications team on Keith Ellison’s successful re-election campaign. I started taking political training courses with organizations like Women Winning and New Politics Academy, and meeting similarly minded people who will shape the political landscape of tomorrow.
I am going into this race with the blinders off, and I am running full steam ahead. I know what it takes to get elected, and I am committed to putting in the work so that my daughters and yours will never have to wake up to the news that their reproductive freedom is in peril. Now is not the time to count on others to do the right thing by us- it’s time for us to become the leaders that we wish to see. I am ready to be that leader for health, for education, and for all of Saint Louis Park. I look forward to serving you as your next City Council member.
