Sarah Steffen, MPH in Community Health Promotion, runs for SLP City Council in Ward 1

Updated: Aug 10, 2025

Saint Louis Park, MN (July 25, 2025):

Public health professional Sarah Steffen is running for St. Louis Park City Council in Ward 1.

As a Minnesota native, Sarah Steffen understands the value of community. She moved to St. Louis Park in 2023 because of the beautiful parks and trails, the strong business community, and the radical inclusiveness of SLP residents. “St. Louis Park is home, and I look forward to serving our community.”

Steffen studied community health promotion at the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health after completing her bachelor’s degree at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, and living on the East Coast for a number of years. Living through the COVID 19 pandemic back in Minnesota, she learned first hand the importance of policy decisions on people’s health. She was especially moved by how disparities affect not only wealth, but also health, life expectancy, and so much more.

“City policy impacts all aspects of our health. From access to parks, to walkability, safety, and many kinds of city services and infrastructure, policy determines how we get around and the nature of our environment.”

As an information systems professional for Minnesota Community Care, Steffen sees how systems affect individual lives. “As your city council member, I will work for health equity reforms, stronger policies to address disparities and support for those small businesses and employees who drive our city’s economy.”

Steffen has advocated for Minnesotans in many roles, including with the Minnesota DFL Party, NAMI Minnesota, Voyageur Outward Bound School, and now Minnesota Community Care. She believes that we all deserve affordable, quality healthcare, access to the outdoors, public education, and reliable mental health services.

“I am ready to be that leader for health, for education, and for all of Saint Louis Park. I look forward to serving you as your next City Council member,” Steffen commented.
